General Information for All Divisions

Season Length: 14 Weeks (March-June)

  • March includes practices only in our indoor facility

Equipment: Cleats, Glove, Helmet, USA Bat, Protective Cup (boys)

Game Location: All Games are at the NELL Complex at 323 Bishop Hollow Rd, Newtown Square, PA 19073

Average Number of Players on Team: 11

Practice Frequency: 1 to 2X/week

Game Frequency: 1 to 2X/week (Weeknight & Saturdays - No Sundays)

Season Phases:

  • Regular Season (No Standings)
  • Round Robin: Standings Determine Playoff Seeding
  • Playoffs: Single Elimination

Postseason Opportunities: A, B, C Teams formed if coaches are available

 

Division Specifics

A - Ball

Age Range: Little League 7-Year-Olds

Pitching: Hack-Attack Machine Pitch All 6 Innings

Number of Teams: 8 to 10

Objectives:

  • Hitting: Work on proper batting stance, good balance and posture, swing path, and keeping head on the ball. Build comfort and skill in hitting from a machine-pitched ball, focusing on timing.
  • Fielding: Introduce players to different fielding positions, work on a consistent ready position, ready to receive the ball, groundball technique, and proper throwing mechanics.
  • Baserunning: Introduction to running through first, taking multiple bases on a base hit, and listening to base coaches.
  • Game Knowledge: Teach basic plays such as force-outs at bases, throwing to first, balls, and strikes.
  • Promote Teamwork: Encourage players to support their teammates, stay informed about the game, and maintain positive behavior.

AA Ball

Age Range: Little League 8-Year-Olds

Pitching: Hybrid - Kid Pitch 3 Innings/Hack-Attack Machine Pitch 3 Innings

Number of Teams: 8 to 10

Objectives:

  • Pitching: Introduction to pitching fundamentals, including proper grip, working from stretch, and maintaining balance.
  • Fielding: Maintain focus on fundamentals and start to teach defensive plays such as cut-offs, relays, and backups. Catchers are caught in proper setup to ensure they protect themselves.
  • Hitting: Focus on getting comfortable with live pitching, understanding the strike zone, and driving through the ball.
  • Baserunning: Introduce leading off the base after the pitch, stealing, and proper sliding techniques.
  • Game Knowledge: Understanding fair and foul, proper defensive positions, and strike zone.
  • Sportsmanship Skills: Demonstrate respect for coaches, umpires, and teammates and show resilience.

Minors

Age Range: Little League 9-Year-Olds & 10-Year-Olds

Pitching: Hybrid - All Kid Pitch

Number of Teams: 12-16 Teams

Objectives:

  • Pitching: Focus on refining techniques such as accuracy, increasing velocity, and pitching multiple innings.
  • Hitting: Focus on developing batters' confidence against live pitching, teaching them to use their lower half. Introduce taking pitches and bunting.
  • Fielding: Continue strengthening infielding skills, such as working around the ball, and following your throw. Strong focus on outfield play; emphasizing getting back on fly balls, closing ground, and taking good angles.
  • Knowledge: Developing situational awareness and knowing where to go with the ball.
  • Baserunning: Reinforce leading off, stealing bases, including home, and reading defensive cues for taking extra bases.
  • Strength and Agility Drills: Incorporate age-appropriate workouts that enhance speed, core strength, and overall conditioning.
  • Foster Team Leadership: Encourage players to lead by example and maintain a positive attitude.

Majors

Age Range: Little League 1-Year-Olds & 12-Year-Olds

Pitching: Hybrid - All Kid Pitch

Number of Teams: 8-12 Teams

Objectives:

  • Pitching: Emphasize control, consistency, and strategic pitching (e.g., mixing speeds and location to keep batters guessing).
  • Hitting: Teach players to read pitches, adjust their approach based on count, and understand situational hitting such as hitting behind the runner or sac flies.
  • Fielding: Teach players more defensive plays, such as fielding bunts, double plays, and run-downs.
  • Baserunning: Introduction of advanced baserunning, anticipating pas balls, first and third plays, and reading balls in the air.
  • Knowledge: Learn infield-fly and drop the third strike.
  • Respect for the Game: Reinforce the importance of respecting opponents, officials, and the game itself, even in intense competitive play.
