Pete Van Wynen, Board Vice President

Pete Van Wynen

Pete Van Wynen and his wife have called Fort Mill home for the past four years after relocating from Utah to be closer to family. With six children, 15 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, family is at the center of everything he does. Alongside supporting his family, Pete is involved in several businesses, including Top Tier Solar Solutions, Top Tier Roofing, and Top Tier Security, all focused on serving homeowners in the community.

His connection to the Carolina Copperheads started the same way it does for many, through family. When his grandson wanted to play football, Pete stepped in to help coach the 11U team. With more than 20 years of coaching experience and nearly two decades serving as a league commissioner in Utah, he quickly became a valuable part of the program. Stepping into a board role as Vice President was a natural extension of his desire to give back and help strengthen the organization.

Behind the scenes, Pete brings a deep understanding of what it takes to run a successful youth football program. From managing diverse personalities to creating an environment where every player feels supported, he understands the challenges of coaching and leading at this level. His experience writing bylaws and guiding league structure has also helped shape how programs operate, benefiting players and families alike.

For Pete, the game is about much more than football. He believes organized sports teach discipline, motivation, respect, and accountability, while also helping kids grow physically and mentally. Just as important, he emphasizes creating a positive experience in which coaches connect with players, find common ground, and help each child feel encouraged and supported.

Looking ahead, Pete is focused on using his experience to continue improving the organization and expanding opportunities for young athletes. He hopes to see the program grow across age groups while maintaining strong coaching and leadership, so that kids want to be part of the Copperheads because of the culture, development, and experience it provides.
