We are in need of Golf Administrators.  Responsibilities include coordinating and communicating the league schedule and practice times with parents, golfers, and adult volunteers for a team.  We have a spreadsheet template set up to help with this.  No golf experience or coaching is required, and you do NOT need to be present at every match.
Please contact one of the golf program coordinators if you are able to help.

Golf

Instructional Program - (Boys & Girls Grades 5 - 8):

  • This program is targeted towards developing players and beginners - designed to give them exposure to the game in a semi-competitive environment, and to learn and develop their playing skills, knowledge of the rules, and etiquette of the game.

  • Beginner players are welcome to the program, but are expected to have played at least 3-5 full 9 hole rounds (at Robins Nest or equivalent beginner course) over the course of the summer before the start of the season. This is in order to become familiar with the game and develop some initial skills so that they are ready to play in matches. Beginners are also encouraged to participate in clinics or lessons prior to the start of the season. This initial experience is important as there will not be enough time to teach your child to play before the first match.

  • Instructional Season: late July - early October at Robins Nest G.C.  Matches are held weekday mornings until mid-August, and after school for the remainder of the season.  Parents or adult volunteers are expected to help walk with the matches, and will be provided with match procedures and instructions.

  • Parents/Coaches are encouraged to walk with the players and can give advice as needed.

  • Players will play Red Tees at Robins Nest during their matches.

Competitive Program – (Boys & Girls Grades 5 - 8):

Varsity and JV Levels

  • This program is targeted for our top competitive and experienced players who can qualify to play at this level.

  • For players interested in competing at this level, tryouts will be held in May to determine our qualifying players, and our average scores will determine where our teams will compete in the league – at either Varsity or JV levels as detailed below.

  • Varsity and JV Season: 15 Matches - Various Courses - (July 29 – Early October)

  • Tournament rules will apply – No advice can be given by anyone (including parents) during a match.

  • Players are expected to have an in depth knowledge of tournament rules and etiquette of golf.

  • Open to qualifying Boys and Girls in Grades 5 through 8.

  • Teams will be assembled by qualifying skill level only, regardless of the grade levels of players.

WAC League Selection Formula for Competitive Level Teams:

  • Players tying out for the Competitive Level teams need to make at least 2 of the 3 available tryout rounds. Players can play up to a maximum of 3 tryout rounds and keep the lowest 2 to count towards qualification.

  • After all players have completed the tryout rounds, players will be ranked into groups of 8, based on the average of their 2 best scores. The top 8 players will be on the first team, the next 8 players on the 2nd team, and if necessary the next 8 on a third team and so on. At this point the team tryout averages (the average of the top 4 players for each team) are sent to the league to determine where that team ranks in the overall league. The league will place the top 10 teams at the Varsity level, the next 10 teams at the JV level, and the rest will be Instructional Level Teams.
