GFSC membership to vote on proposed merger with Reston
Great Falls Soccer Club (GFSC) has been exploring the possibility of merging with Reston Soccer Association (RSA). Over the past 8 months, we have met several times with members of RSA's Board of Directors to look closely at all aspects of a merger, and we have found it to be a very opportune time to merge the two clubs.
It has been made clear through our conversations that each club has specific strengths that, when combined, will make a joined entity a very competitive organization in Northern Virginia. In terms of numbers, RSA has a strong House/Recreational Program with a very consistent contingent of returning players. GFSC has an organized Travel Program with an emphasis on competitive performance and quality coaching. The combined entity would leverage the strong qualities of each club and create a more complete and competitive club going forward.
The ever-changing landscape of soccer in the United States has seen many smaller clubs like GFSC and RSA get swallowed up by much larger soccer clubs. A combined club would allow us to compete with bigger clubs both on the soccer field as well as financially.
The Board of Directors of GFSC met on Monday, January 15th to hear a full report from the exploratory group that has been meeting with RSA. After an hour of discussion, the Board voted unanimously to move ahead with the merger.
The Board has also set a date for a Q&A session and vote for GFSC's general membership on March 7th beginning at 7 PM in the cafeteria of Great Falls Elementary School.
Members from GFSC and Reston will be on hand for the Q&A session, so bring any questions or concerns that you may have. A ballot box will be set up, so members can stop by to cast their vote anytime between 7 and 8:30 PM.
Please be sure to read the
Official Notice
of the proposed merger as well as a
Fact Sheet
with some general information and answers to questions that you may have. Please feel free to reach out to me with more specific questions or concerns prior to the March 7th meeting.
I encourage each family to come out to cast a vote on this very important occasion.
I look forward to seeing you on March 7th.
All the best,
Will Simonds Jr.
