Certification clinics for Spring 2018 are now open.  Consult state website for course locations (see links below).

Becoming a Referee

If you wish to become a USSF referee, you will need to be certified and you must be 13 yrs of age to work for the Reston/Great Falls Joint Referee Program.

Getting Certified
Your first step is to go to the State of Virginia’s website at www.vadcsoccerref.com, click on Clinics Listing (area is North; type is New Referee Grade 8 ) to find an available course.  This is an 18 hour course and you must attend all sessions.  Once you have determined which clinic best fits your schedule, you will then need to go to Registration – please read the instructions carefully.  Should the course indicate that it is fully subscribed, contact the Assignor of the Reston/Great Falls Joint Referee Program at [email protected].

Join the Club’s Database
Once you have completed and passed the course, you will then need to register in The Joint Referee Program’s database so that you can start receiving communications from our Assignor.  This is also how you indicate you are interested in working games.  Go to www.restonsoccer.com, click on the ‘Registration’ tab, then click on the ‘Referees’ tab, and follow the prompts.

Uniform and Equipment
To be considered for assignment to games through The Reston/Great Falls Joint Referee Program, you are required to have the correct uniform and equipment.  This includes – black shorts, black socks with 3 white stripes at the top, black shoes, a yellow referee jersey, a set of flags, a referee data wallet with yellow and red card, game day report forms, a whistle and a watch with a stop-watch function.  We also ask that you have a back-up, plain black t-shirt (Michael’s sells these) in case of a color conflict with a visiting team’s jersey.

Mentor Program
The Joint Referee Program’s mentors walk the fields on game days and offer advice and support to all our officials.  Each season (Spring and Fall) begins with a pre-season meeting and all of our referees are expected to attend, especially newly certified officials.
