Arbutus Little League - Since 1953, everyday is a hit

Machine Pitch (7-8yo)

Machine Pitch

  • League Age 7 and 8 years old.  Use the Little League Age Charts to find your child’s year of birth.
  • This division introduces hitting a ball pitched from a machine. A machine is used to ensure the balls are thrown straight and at a consistent speed.
  • This is a non-competitive division, so standings are not kept. Scores should be recorded in each team's scorebook.
  • The role of the coaches is to develop basic baseball skills and demonstrate good sportsmanship.
  • This is about player safety and making the game fun.
  • Each team will have no more than 12 players.

  • Games are played twice per week - one weekday game (starting at 6 pm) and one on Saturday (starts times vary). Games are only scheduled on Sundays when the league needs to move them due to an event or bad weather.
  • Rainouts are to be played on the next available date.
  • Games are played on the Shelbourne Road Field.  Parking is available across the street.

Player's Equipment

  • All players are given a team shirt, pants, and a baseball hat.
  • Cleats are recommended.
  • Bats and helmets are provided. Players must provide their own glove
  • See Tips for Parents and Players webpage for info on getting the proper bat, helmet and glove.

Game Rules

  • Little League Rules are at
  • Each game is 2 hours or 6 innings, whichever comes first
  • A new inning may not start 15 minutes prior to the scheduled end time
  • Each game will have one umpire.
  • A batter shall receive 5 pitches. For the first 4 games only, the player will hit from the Tee when the player has not called out after 5 pitches.
  • Outs are recorded for 5 missed pitches, fly balls, force-out, and tag-out.
  • Each inning a team shall bat until until 3 outs or 5 runs (which is the run limit per inning per team).
  • Players do not have to stop at first base. They can round-the-base.
  • NO stealing.
  • Scores and standings are NOT kept.
  • All plays on the ball must be made by team players. No coach or other person may touch it.
  • A team can play a game with 8 players. When a team has less than 9 players, eliminate positions in the order of pitcher, catcher, then outfield positions. When a game starts with 8 players and the 9th shows up late, that player is placed at the end of the line-up and becomes a sub. Games starting with 8 players will only have 8 players on the field for the entire game.

  • Teams are encouraged to arrive at the field 30 minutes prior to their game to warm-up.
  • Teams are to store the bases in the shed boxes, and rack the fields after each game.
