Volunteer Background Checks and Clearances Requirements

All volunteers at South Marple must complete and submit the required Pennsylvania State and Little League International background checks and clearances. The required items are as follows:

• 1. Little League Background Check (JDP)

  2. Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check 

  3. Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance 

  4. FBI Clearances or Signed Affidavit (if you lived in PA for the past 10 years)

  5. Abuse Awareness for Adults Course 

NEW THIS YEAR: ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST ALSO COMPLETE AN “ABUSE AWARENESS for ADULTS” COURSE! This is a new Little League requirement and will take anywhere from 30-60 minutes to complete and is mandatory EVERY year.

State clearances are valid for 5 years and must be provided before service begins. Paper copies are required for new volunteers or those with expired clearances. The Little League Volunteer Background Check and Abuse Awareness Course are done online annually.

Due Date for Submission: SATURDAY, MARCH 23, 2024

Volunteers must have ALL of the following background checks and clearances: 

1. LITTLE LEAGUE BACKGROUND CHECK (JDP)

• Fill out this form: link to form

• JDP will send you an email with a link to complete the background check.

• Please complete it as soon as you receive the email from JDP. 

• You do NOT need to submit a paper copy of the Little League Background Check. SMLL Receives notification when a check is complete.

2. PENNSYLVANIA STATE POLICE CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK

After completion, you will receive a pdf that you should download and either  print and turn in or send a digital copy to [email protected].

3. PENNSYLVANIA CHILD ABUSE HISTORY CLEARANCE 

It can sometimes take a day or two (or even up to a week) to receive the clearance. Please pay attention to your inbox for an email that will allow you to log back on and download the clearance document and either  print and turn in or send a digital copy to [email protected].

4. FBI check ONLY if you have NOT lived in Pennsylvania continuously for the past 10 years. 

For the FBI check, you would need to go to a location for fingerprinting and then you can submit the check. Please scan the clearance document and either  print and turn in or send a digital copy to [email protected].

4. If you have been a resident of PA continuously for the past 10 years, completed

5. ABUSE AWARENESS FOR ADULTS COURSE AND CERTIFICATE (New This Year)

Directions for Abuse Awareness for Adults Course Completion--LITTLE LEAGUE:

1. Create an Account or Sign in to USABDevelops.com

• Go to USABDevelops.com or download the USA Baseball app in the Apple App Store or Google Play.

• Click “Sign in/Register”

• Enter all required information

• Select your league from the “Little League – Local Leagues” drop-down menu and click “+Join” 

• SOUTH MARPLE DOES NOT HAVE A DROP DOWN MENU. PLEASE SELECT LITTLE LEAGUE—

• If you have an existing account, click your name in the top right corner, select MY ACCOUNT, and then UPDATE MY PROFILE to link your account with your local Little League.

2. Complete Abuse Awareness for Adults course*

   • Click EDUCATION

   • Select COURSES

   • Click “Abuse Awareness for Adults” → “+Enroll” → “Go to Course”

   • Complete the course

3. *If you have completed the Abuse Awareness for Adults course in the past and need an updated certificate, please select the Restart Course button.

   • Click your name in the top right corner and select MY ACCOUNT

   • Select COURSES

   • Scroll to the Abuse Awareness for Adults course and click RESTART COURSE

4. Download Certificate

   • Click your name in the top right corner and select MY ACCOUNT

   • Select COURSES

   • Scroll to the Abuse Awareness for Adults course and click DOWNLOAD CERTIFICATE

HOW TO SUBMIT DOCUMENTS

All documents can be digitally sent to  [email protected] or you may drop off a copy to Joe Leach at 250 N. Central Blvd. Broomall Pa 19008.
