Coach Registration & Team Creation Guide (via Sports Connect)

⚠️ Important: A coach must register and create a team before parents can register their children and join that team. Do not attempt to register your child until the coach has completed this step and sent out the team invite.

STEP 1️⃣: Go to the Registration Page

STEP 2️⃣: Create Your Account or Log In

• Click “Register” (top right).

• Enter your email address and create a password.

• Complete your profile.

STEP 3️⃣: Register Yourself as a Volunteer Coach

• After your account is set up, click “Volunteer.”

• Select the program and age division you want to coach.

• Click “Sign Up” next to the role Coach.

• Click “Continue.”

STEP 4️⃣: Create Your Team

• On the team creation screen:

  • Choose a team name. Sports Connect will alert you if the name is already taken.

  • Follow the program-specific team naming guidelines below:

    • 🏈 NFL FLAG: Choose an NFL team name (e.g., Cowboys, Eagles).

    • 🏀 Jr. NBA / Jr. WNBA: Choose an NBA or WNBA team name (e.g., Spurs, Sparks).

    • ⚽ MLS GO: Choose an MLS team name (e.g., Austin FC, LA Galaxy).

    • ⚾ T-Ball: Choose an MLB team name (e.g., Astros, Yankees).

• Complete all remaining info and click “Continue.”

STEP 5️⃣: Manage Invites & Share Your Team Code

• Click “Manage Invites.”

• This will take you to your Team Directory, where your team code is listed.

• Use the “Player Invite” section to input parents' emails and send invites.

• Be sure to include the team code in the “Additional Comments” section of the invite.

  • You can also text or email the team code directly to parents.

  • Parents will be prompted to enter the code during registration.

✅ Co-Coach? Use the “Team Staff Invite” section to invite an assistant coach.

STEP 6️⃣: Complete Background Check

All coaches must complete and pass a background check.

STEP 7️⃣: Register Your Child

Registering as a coach does not place your child on a team roster.
👉 Please go back to your Sports Connect account and register your child using the Team Code you were provided.

⚠️ Notes:

• If a team does not meet the minimum number of players, YMCA staff may assign individual players (Free Agents) to your team to complete the roster.

• All communication from Sports Connect will be sent to the email address you used to create your account.
