Odessa Family YMCA – Youth Sports Coach Code of Conduct

As a coach in the Odessa Family YMCA Youth Sports League, you play a vital role in shaping the character and confidence of every child you lead. Our programs are designed to promote healthy competition, teamwork, and respect in a positive environment. All coaches are expected to uphold the values of honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith in all interactions with players, parents, officials, and fellow coaches.

As a Coach, I Will:

1. Model YMCA Core Values
   Lead by example by showing respect, integrity, and good sportsmanship at all times—win or lose.

2. Focus on Youth Development
   Prioritize each child’s personal growth, confidence, and enjoyment of the sport over the desire to win games.

3. Create a Positive, Inclusive Environment
   Support every player, regardless of skill level or background, and ensure all children feel welcomed and included.

4. Communicate Respectfully
   Use positive reinforcement when coaching and communicating. Avoid yelling, criticism, or sarcasm.

5. Respect Officials and YMCA Staff
   Accept and support decisions made by referees and staff, and encourage players and parents to do the same.

6. Teach Fundamentals and Life Skills
   Coach the rules and skills of the sport while emphasizing teamwork, effort, and respect for others.

7. Ensure Player Safety
   Monitor players for signs of injury, fatigue, or emotional distress, and take necessary precautions to protect their well-being.

8. Be Prepared and Punctual
   Arrive on time for practices and games, plan ahead, and communicate clearly with parents and the YMCA when necessary.

9. Refrain from Substance Use or Inappropriate Behavior
   Never use tobacco, alcohol, or drugs during practices or games. I will not use profanity or engage in any behavior that compromises the safety or spirit of the YMCA.

Violation of This Code May Result In:

• Verbal warning or written notice from YMCA staff

• Suspension from coaching duties

• Removal from the league or future coaching opportunities

By coaching in YMCA Youth Sports, you agree to abide by this Code of Conduct and help us nurture the potential of every child through a safe, supportive, and positive sports experience.
