MISSION STATEMENT

It is our objective to focus on player development at all levels of play by building their skills, confidence, fitness, and sense of community and teamwork. We are also committed to the development of our coaches through coaching courses, online resources, and learning from more experienced coaches. We promote and encourage a high standard of sportsmanship and fair play.

ABOUT RECREATIONAL TRAVEL

The SYA Travel Soccer program is comprised of both recreational and competitive levels of play. We expect our players and parents to maintain a high level of sportsmanship within our teams, opposing teams, and officials. We encourage the players to work hard, stay committed, and most importantly have FUN!

The soccer program follows the code of conduct set forth by the SYA and all rules and regulations set forth by the various leagues we participate in.

The travel teams are divided into the following age groups:

  • U10: Players in 3rd and 4th grade
  • U12: Players in 5th and 6th grade
  • U14: Players in 7th and 8th grade
  • U16 High School JV: Players in 9th and 10th grade
  • U18 High School Varsity: Players in 11th and 12th grade

It is our goal to offer both a girls’ team and a boys’ team in each age group. If we do not have enough to split the players, we will offer a coed team. For the Spring season, we also offer a High School division. This division will be created based on overall interest from players.

WHAT IS NEEDED?

All players are required to wear shin guards. Socks should cover the shin guards at all times, ensuring players protection. Cleats are required. Players are also encouraged to bring water and a positive attitude to every training session and game.

COMMITMENT

Generally, teams meet twice a week and have a game on the weekends, typically on a Saturday, but could be on a Sunday. Coaches will communicate the date and times of all trainings and will also circulate the game schedule as soon as it has been cleared by the Director. Generally, teams will begin their season in early to mid-March in the Spring and early to mid-August in the Fall. The end of season tournament for most teams is normally the first weekend in June in the Spring and the first weekend in November in the Fall.

Teams will participate in the United Recreation Soccer League (URSL).
