The SYA Fall volleyball program offers many opportunities for girls to be instructed in everything from fundamental skills to advanced team competition. As a feeder program for Smithsburg High girls volleyball, the program is designed to prepare area girls for what they can expect as a part of a premier high school program.

Elementary Program: 3rd- 5th Grade:

This program is designed to introduce the fundamentals of volleyball in a fun and rewarding environment. They will be introduced to the basic skills of the game as well as building agility, coordination, and balance. This is a clinic-based program with no formal game play. Practice will be held 2 nights per week.

The program will start around the second week in September and run until the Second week in October.

In-House league 5th - 8th grade:

Our In-House Program is designed for middle school girls who want to experience competitive play in a fun, supportive environment. It’s perfect for players who are new to the game or not quite ready for the intensity of a travel league.

Players receive quality coaching while learning the fundamentals of positions, teamwork, and game play. Teams are formed to ensure balanced competition, creating an exciting and enjoyable experience for everyone.

There are no tryouts or cuts. Players are evaluated at the first practice to help create balanced teams. Participation in travel tryouts is optional, and players do not need to live in the Smithsburg School District to join.

Travel League:

(6th - 8th Grade - must attend Smithsburg Middle school or home schooled but live in the Smithsburg school district)

This league is highly competitive for girls in grades 6 - 8 with the most advanced skills. The girls compete in a league with teams from around Washington County in the fall, culminating in a championship tournament for the 8th grade team. This is a 3-4 night/week commitment.

Tryouts are for required for TRAVEL ONLY & you must be registered to try out - if you do not make the travel team you can get a refund or play in the in-house program. Try outs will be held at the Leitersburg Ruritan Community Center on August 10 and August 17.
