The SYA Fall volleyball program offers many opportunities for girls to be instructed in everything from fundamental skills to advanced team competition. As a feeder program for Smithsburg High girls volleyball, the program is designed to prepare area girls for what they can expect as a part of a premier high school program.
Elementary Program: 3rd- 5th Grade:
This program is designed to introduce the fundamentals of volleyball in a fun and rewarding environment. They will be introduced to the basic skills of the game as well as building agility, coordination, and balance.
The program will start around the second week in September and run until the Second week in October.

In-House league 5th - 8th grade:
Is designed for middle school girls that want to test their skills in competition, but may never have played before or are not quite ready for the intense competition of the travel league. Girls participating in the house league get quality coaching and instruction, and as part of a team, learn the basics of positions and team play techniques. House league teams are formed with the intent of promoting balanced competition, which allows for more exciting play.
In-House league play provides a rewarding experience that gets competitive juices flowing in a friendly, low-pressure atmosphere. It is ideal for 5th graders and middle school girls who want to hone their skills and enjoy the camaraderie that comes with being part of a team. There are no tryouts or cuts for the in-house program. Girls' skills will be assessed at the first practice to create more balanced in-house teams. They may attend the tryouts in August for the Travel program if they want to but it is not required to participate in the in-house program. You do not have to live in the Smithsburg School district to participate in the in-house program.
Travel League: (6th - 8th Grade - must attend Smithsburg Middle school or home schooled but live in the Smithsburg school district)
This league is highly competitive for girls in grades 6 - 8 with the most advanced skills. The girls compete in a league with teams from around Washington County in the fall, culminating in a championship tournament for the 8th grade team.
Tryouts are for required for TRAVEL ONLY & you must be registered to try out - if you do not make the travel team you can get a refund or play in the in-house program. Try outs will be held at the Leitersburg Ruritan Community Center on Monday Aug 7th & Monday Aug 14th.
6 p.m. - 7 p.m. - 6th Grade.
7 p.m. - 8 p.m. - 7th Grade.
8 p.m. - 9 p.m. - 8th Grade.

SYA Refund Policy:
Early and accurate registrations are critical for our sports programs to put together teams, for league registrations, to allocate appropriate resources, find coaches, and create schedules. However, we understand that situations sometimes arise that can prevent players from participating so we provide the following refund policy.
To request a refund for the sport registration fee the participant should e-mail the director for that sport.
A $10 administrative fee will be deducted from any refund issued.
If SYA has already incurred costs for that player such as league registration fees those fees will be subtracted from the refund
Late registration fees will not be refunded.
No refunds will be given after June 30th.
Requests must be in writing and made to the director before June 30th.
