MISSION STATEMENT

It is our objective to focus on player development at all levels of play by building their skills, confidence, fitness, and sense of community and teamwork. We are also committed to the development of our coaches through coaching courses, online resources, and learning from more experienced coaches. We promote and encourage a high standard of sportsmanship and fair play.

ABOUT ACADEMY

The Soccer Academy focus is on teaching the basics of soccer such as dribbling, properly kicking the soccer ball and other key fundamentals of soccer. Players learn and practice their skills in a variety of games and activities. All practices are designed for the players to have FUN!

The academy is divided into two age groups:
  • U6 Academy: Players in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten / players are between 4-6 years old
  • U8 Academy: Players in 1st and 2nd grade / players are between 6-8 years old

U6 Academy

The U6 Academy provides players with an introduction to soccer. The primary focus is on building player’s confidence with the ball through fun dribbling games and small-sided competition. Players will also learn eight fundamental moves throughout the season. Those players who are able to perform these moves during a game, will earn a moves patch.
  • Practices are on Monday evenings for about an hour.
  • Games are on Saturday mornings 9 AM.

U8 Academy

The U8 Academy continues to build off the core soccer foundations learned at the previous level. The primary focus at this level is to build player’s individual skill while incorporating some team aspects. Players will continue expanding their dribbling skills while playing fun games and competing against other teams in small-sided competition.

Players will be divided into teams at this age group and assigned a head coach. One night a week, we will have a group skills training session. Group skills night will be for all U8 players to work with all coaches on a range of various skills. Coaches will then meet with their teams one other night during the week to have a team focused practice.

Games will be played against other U8 teams within Washington County. These games will be played on Saturday mornings and will be coach led. Teams will generally play three to four away games and three to four home games.
  • Practices are on Wednesdays and one other night of the week for an hour.
  • Games are on Saturday mornings at either at a Soccer field in Smithsburg or another local (Washington County) soccer field.

WHAT IS NEEDED?

All players are required to wear shin guards. Socks should cover the shin guards at all times, ensuring players protection. Cleats are not required, but are encouraged. Tennis shoes are perfectly fine. Players are also encouraged to bring water to every session and game.
