Calvert County American Little League

Challengers Baseball

Challenger Baseball division of Little League, for boys and girls 4-18 (and up to 22 if still enrolled in school), is a program for mentally and physically challenged youth, helping them to enjoy the full benefits of Little League participation in an athletic environment structured to their abilities.

More than the skills of baseball learned through the experience, the value of the Little League Challenger Division is found in the proven therapeutic and socialization benefits of participating in sports, the strengthening of participants’ self-esteem, the opportunities to mainstream into other divisions of play, and the disciplines of teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play, which are hallmarks of the Little League program.

This video from a Massachusetts Little League's Challenger program gives a great overview of the division:

FAQ

I don't live in Calvert County, can I play?
Yes! Our Challengers boundary covers all of District 7 Little League to include: Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary's Counties as well as the southern part of Prince George's County (south of US 50).

How can I volunteer?
Challengers relies on volunteers - coaches, team parents, and buddies (peer mentors). We definitely need your help. Please email us at
[email protected] or fill out our volunteer form.

Where are games?
Practices and games are typically held at Hallowing Point Park.

However, as our expansion is new this year, if we have substantial interest from our adjoining counties, we will offer practices to players closer to their home.

I have no baseball experience, can I play?
YES! Many of our youth athletes have no experience.

Is there any assistance to help with registration fees?
While we try to keep our fees as low as possible, we realize for some families it can be a barrier. T-Mobile is offering a grant to families in need that covers registration costs. Sign up for the grant at https://www.littleleague.org/call-up-grant-program/
