1. Please review the DYB FAQ and GAME RULES tabs on our website for more information about this division.
2. The 1st/2nd grade division is geared towards player skill development and FUN.
3. The 1st/2nd grade division is CO-ED.
4. There IS NOT a skills assessment for this division. Players will be randomly assigned to teams trying to ensure competitiveness to the best of our ability
5. Basketball Size: A size 27.5-inch basketball will be used at practices and games.
6. Basket Type and Height: 8 feet.
- Please note that PORTABLE BASKETBALL HOOPS will be used because the baskets at Fellowship church do not adjust up or down.
7. All practices and games will be held at:
- Fellowship Church located at 45 Hildebrandt Rd, Dallas, PA 18612. Please respect their facility and staff!
8. Practices: will be about skill development and FUN.
9. Practices: will be held one evening per week for 45 minutes.
- Tuesdays: 6:00PM to 6:45PM and 7 to 7:45PM
- There will be approximately 8-10 practices tentatively beginning 11/17/26 through 2/2/27.
- There can be up to 4 teams practicing at the same time.
- Each practice will have a “Practice Plan” provided by DYB that will devote at least 30 minutes to skill development only. Coaches must follow these practice plans. The remaining 15 minutes can be devoted to basketball related FUN ACTIVITIES or GAMES.
- Example: Practice plan for ball handling, passing, and catching fundamentals for 30 minutes. The remaining 15 minutes are devoted to dribbling or passing contests.
- All coaches / teams practicing at the same time will practice together as a GROUP with coaches demonstrating the skill and all players performing the skill / task.
- All coaches and teams can break out into their own group for the last 15 minutes of practice.
10. Games: will be held once per week:
- Sundays: 2:00PM to 3PM and 3:00PM to 4:00PM
- There will be approximately 7 to 8 games tentatively beginning 12/6/26 through 2/7/27.
- Coaches WILL BE on the floor with their teams to help. It is strongly recommended that teams have at least 1 head coach and 1 to 2 assistant coaches.
11. Cancelled practices and games will not be rescheduled.
12. There ARE NOT playoff or championship games for this level.
13. Officials:
- The goal is to have at least 1 PIAA official per game.
- In addition, there may be volunteer high school basketball players, DYB approved adult volunteers if available.
- The volunteer coaches will be responsible for this if there are not any other officials (has never happened but be aware just in case because there is a shortage of PIAA officials nationwide)
14. Officiating / Rule Violations / Fouls:
- Rules / Violations will not be strictly enforced but rather taught.
- First half of the season: Violation such as traveling, double dribble, carrying, hold, illegal use of hands, backcourt violation, will not be called unless extreme. Play will be stopped for repeated violations, education will occur / given by the coaches / officials, and play will resume with the team keeping the ball and inbounding again.
- Second half of the season: Violations will result in education and ball turned over to opponent.
15. Fouls:
- ARE NOT counted.
- Players DO NOT foul out. However, it is the discretion of DYB, coaches, officials, etc. to remove a player from a game if demonstrating unsafe / unsportsmanlike behavior.
- The BONUS foul shot / free throw rule IS NOT USED at this level
