ALL volunteers must complete, return the DALLAS YOUTH BASKETBALL VOLUNTEER APPLICATION AND BACKGROUND CHECK FORM which includes a review for sex offender registries, child abuse and criminal history records. This includes RETURNING volunteers, even if completed last season.

DYB appreciates all past and current volunteers. However, regardless of previous appointments as a volunteer, DYB IS NOT obligated to appoint any person to a volunteer position. Registering to be a volunteer head or assistant coach does not guarantee selection for this position. Selection depends on the number of teams; number of returning coaches from the previous season; completion and passing the DYB background check, and board approval.

HEAD COACHES:
All people selected / approved to be a HEAD COACH will be notified by the board member of that division at middle to end of September.

Must attend both SKILLS ASSESMENT sessions in Mid-October and the PLAYER DRAFT at end of OCTOBER (or appoint a designee in their absence for both). See dates for these in the follow-up email sent after registration. Your division's commissioner will also inform you of these dates. EXCEPTION: 1st and 2nd Grade Divisions DOE NOT hold SKILLS ASSESSMENTS or a DRAFT and players are assigned to teams.

ASSISTANT COACHES:
A list of volunteers for ASSISTANT COACHES will be given to HEAD COACHES prior to the draft. Head coaches review the list and select one as the ASSISTANT COACH after the draft is completed, generally a parent or legal guardian of a player from their team. If there are not enough volunteers for assistant coaches, then the head coaches can ask / select a parent from their team.

TEAM HELPERS:
Each coach / team could benefit from TEAM HELPER(S) to assist with team tasks such as helping supervise the school door to assist with letting their team’s players, the next group of players / coaches into the building, and other tasks. They are not coaches but may also help coaches during practices as needed. TEAM HELPERS MAY ATTEND 3rd to 6th Grade Practices. TEAM HELPERS refer to those volunteers who are not coaches but there to assist / be present in the gym for practices. There is a Limit of TWO TEAM HELPERS PER TEAM at practices. Please see our website for DYB FAQs which provides information.

TEAM HELPERS will be contacted by their assigned coaches once all team rosters are finalized.
