Competitive soccer at CR United Soccer Club (CRU) is for players that want more of a challenge from soccer than what is available to them in the recreational soccer league. CR United has a unique approach to competitive soccer and utilizes our professional coaches to train and develop our players.
In competitive soccer, there is an increase in the level of play and coaching; with this comes a higher level of commitment in time, intensity and financial investment. You can expect 3 episodes (combination of games and practices) of soccer per week. Each team coach will determine the number of practices.
Players are expected to be present at practice and games as well as participate in winter Age Group Training (AGT) November - April. There is a fall season for U9 - U14 that runs from late August to mid-October, with the spring/summer season starting in May (games), practices start as soon as weather permits. Winter training is conducted at the indoor fields at the National Sports Center (NSC) in Blaine on Sundays for 1 hour. Players can attend all, some or none of the sessions depending upon other obligations.
Parents are expected to support their players on the sidelines as well as financially. Registration fee is inclusive of Fall season/Winter training and Spring/Summer season. CRU is one of the few associations that offers an installment payment plan for registration fees. CRU expects to continue this policy and appreciates all parent/guardians compliance with timely fee payment.
The expectation is that one set of uniforms will be used for 2 years of soccer.
Each team is expected to play in 1 fall tournament and 2 spring/summer tournaments. Tournaments fees are not covered by registration fees and will be determined by the coach/manager of each team. Participation in tournaments is expected and the costs are shared by the entire team. If a player is unable to be present at a tournament, the fee will still apply.
The success of CRU is dependent upon volunteers. Each competitive player is expected to provide a volunteer 16 years of age or older to fulfill 6 (12 for 2 or more players) volunteer hours each year. There is a required $150.00 ($250.00 for 2 or more players) deposit collected at the start of the season in the form of a post-dated check. A signed volunteer agreement is also collected. In the event a player's hours are not completed within the set time, the check will be cashed. We have multiple opportunities to volunteer and getting hours is not difficult.
Coaches/assistant coaches are volunteers. Each coach is expected to take advantage of training available to them through CRU and Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) to develop skills needed to help players develop and progress. Coaches also determine which tournaments will be played during the season and when/how often practices will be held.
Managers are also volunteers and function as the communicator between the team parents and coach. They register teams for tournaments, collect fees and update the team with important information from the coaches and CRU.
