WHAT ALL-STAR PARENTS NEED TO KNOW
Talk to your team Manager before All-Star selections!
Players, league age 9-14, that live and/or go to school within CHLL’s boundaries are eligible to be an All-Star player!!
It’s extremely important for parents to be reminded that participating in All-Stars is a choice, and that while it is a privilege to play, it is also a commitment with added fees, practices, and games. Depending on how well the team does, All-Stars can go through July (or longer).
When it comes time for All-Star season, please talk to your Manager to see what their plans are. Although CHLL is a recreational program, All-Stars is very competitive and teams work extremely hard once the season starts.
If you realize that your son or daughter has any conflicts, it may be a wise decision to pass on the tournament selection and allow another player to share in the experience. Please let your Manager know ASAP if your player is unable to participate in All-Stars.
What can I expect if my child makes the All-Star team?
Your first reaction will be pride in your child when he or she makes the All-Star team at Citrus Heights Little League!! Then you get excited and even a little bit nervous when we start playing the teams from other youth baseball leagues. But before you get too excited, please know that All-Stars is a major commitment. Here is some important information to know before a player is chosen for an All-Star team……………..
Is there a cost being on the All-Star team?
The actual fees and costs will vary from year to year, we will let you know what the costs are before the All-star teams are assembled. If cost is an issue, please reach out to our Treasurer immediately at [email protected] - We do not want fees to be a reason for any player to pass up being an All-Star!!
Keep in mind these following expenses that are often forgotten about, and can incur if your team advances to the next level in All-Stars:
- Uniform: jersey, hat, pants, socks (possibly cleats if your child outgrows the pair, he/she started with!).
- Gas: traveling to other youth baseball leagues in the area (i.e.: Simi Valley, Santa Clarita, Camarillo, Newbury Park, etc.). Western Regions is held in San Bernardino
- Meals: you'll be out of town a lot of weekends so either pack a bunch of snacks or plan to eat out.
- Lodging: although it's rare, staying out of town overnight at an All-Star tournament isn't unheard of.
NOTE: if you know a business or an individual that may want to help sponsor your All-Star team, or any of the All-Star teams at Citrus Heights Little League, please have them get in touch with us at any time!! You can also inquire with local businesses and restaurants about their fundraising opportunities to try to offset some of your team's costs.
How long is the All-Star season?
The All-Star season can go well into July-August, depending on how well the team does. Teams will continue to advance until they've lost one game.
What is the typical All-Star schedule?
Expect to play in local All-Star tournaments mostly on weekends and have 1-3 practices during the week. However, Tournaments sometimes start on Thursdays or Fridays. All-Star teams may also have a double-header (2 games in one day) on at least one day during the tournament; sometimes more.
Please be advised, this schedule is subject to change and will not be confirmed until the season starts.
What if we're planning a family vacation during All-Star season?
We understand this can be a tough time to have families commit to playing baseball after the regular season ends... school gets out in June and families often plan summer vacations around the kids' school schedules. At the same time, this is an amazing experience for the players and their families!!
We need to know well in advance if your player can participate, and commit 100%, as this will affect the Allstar draft.
We ask that if you know that your child will be unavailable for the duration of the All-star season, please withdraw your child's name from the eligible list so that another deserving player has the chance at this amazing All-Star experience.
More importantly, remember that all these All-Star players are still kids - they want to have fun. If going on vacation will be better for your child and your family, don't feel like you're letting the team down. Chances are good that if your child was good enough to make an All-Star team this season, he or she will be likely to make it another season, too. Do what is best for your family and your children. At Citrus Heights Little League, the players come first, and so do their families!
What will my child gain from this experience?
In general, the kids on the All-Star teams have a great time. They also make new friends - kids from other teams in the league who also made the team, and even kids from other leagues that they may play against several times in tournaments. It also allows the kids a chance to play against a higher level of baseball talent, and that almost invariably makes them better baseball players. Playing on the All-Star team also builds confidence in our Citrus Heights Little League players. Knowing that they are recognized as being among the best players in their division, whether they advance or not, is a huge confidence booster and that added confidence often transfers into other areas of their lives such as school, work, making friends, playing other sports, sportsmanship, and so much more!
