Purpose

The SCAA Challenge program provides a cost-effective alternative to travel baseball for our athletes that participate in the league’s regular spring and fall seasons. Players acquire competitive tournament experience within the greater Charlotte area while building and enhancing skills taught in our Little League program.

SCAA is currently planning a 2025 Spring 12U, 10U, and 8U Challenge team with tournaments running March through June.  Additional age groups may be available based on interest and volunteer support. A player’s age may be determined differently than our Little League teams based on the tournaments played.

Try Outs

Tryouts are mandatory and open to all registered SCAA players. They will follow Majors and Minors Little League evaluations in February 2025 (tentative). All SCAA registered players are eligible to tryout with selection based on performance, skillset, and commitment. The number of players that tryout directly impacts the team selection process.

Participation in the Challenge program does not imply or assure participation in the spring postseason District Tournament (All-Stars). These programs are separate and have independent roster selection processes.

Time Commitment and Cost

Practices
Practices occur every Friday evening, unless otherwise coordinated by coaches.

Tournaments
Tournaments typically consist of Sunday Only tournaments in the greater Charlotte area (two games per team). There may be an opportunity for teams to participate in full weekend tournaments (four games minimum per team on Sat/Sun).
Below is the anticipated number of tournaments:

  • The 12U Challenge team will participate in a minimum of four tournaments.
  • The 10U Challenge team will participate in a minimum of three tournaments.
  • Additional tournaments and age groups are possible based on availability, cost, and interest from parents.

SCAA primarily plays in the Carolina Challenge Baseball league.

Cost
The cost for Challenge Baseball varies based on the number and type of tournaments played. The cost can range between $200 - $350 dollars for tournament fees and other expenses (e.g., uniform).

Volunteer Support

Challenge Baseball Families must agree to volunteer in the SCAA concession stand when accepting an invitation to join a Challenge team. SCAA typically hosts two to three Challenge tournaments per season and concessions must be open and fully staffed. Each family must volunteer for one time slot per Challenge tournament hosted by SCAA.
