Steele Creek Baseball's policy for determining and communicating weather-related schedule changes:
- If you haven't heard otherwise, you should assume the game/practice is ON
- Conditions change throughout the day, and quite often we may get a shower early in the day and the fields are fine by 6pm. Conditions also vary around the area where it may be pouring where you are 5 miles away, but the fields aren't getting anything (or vice versa).
- We don't know the actual conditions of the fields until someone is able to physically go over and check them, and many of our volunteers' personal/work schedules don't allow that until later in the afternoon.
- We must notify umpires by 4pm of any cancellations or else we get charged. Therefore, we try to assess conditions around 3-3:30pm and will get communications out to parents at that time, if there are any schedule changes. Waiting to check conditions until mid afternoon also helps avoid cancelling activities prematurely when the fields may end up being playable by 6pm.
- There may be rare occasions where we determine at 3:30pm that we can play, but then the weather worsens between then and game-time. When this happens we will communicate promptly of the change. Once we reach game-time, any decision to stop a game due to weather or field conditions is at the umpire's discretion.
- We typically make every attempt to stay on schedule, particularly with games, and only cancel when truly necessary.
- Please do not bombard your coach with inquiries about your player's practice or game status. If a league-wide decision is made to cancel activities, you will be notified at the same time the coaches are by a league-wide email. If only certain fields or specific activities need to be cancelled, your coach will communicate it immediately once that decision is made.
- Again, if you haven't heard otherwise, you should assume the game/practice is ON
