U8 - U14 Rec Program

Overview. The U8-U14 Recreational Program provides a low-cost option for kids to play soccer on a community-based team with their peers. Game scores are not recorded, no league standings are kept, and every child is guaranteed to play at least 50% of each game. Teams generally have kids with a wide range of skills -- it is not uncommon for teams to include players who are playing soccer for the first time, as well as players who also play on competitive "select" teams.

Team Formation.  Teams are formed according to rules that CCYSL has adopted that comply with KYSA guidelines. To group kids by geographic locations, CCYSL has adopted sub-groups that align with local elementary and middle schools. More information on registration and team formation can be found on the Registrar's Page.

Games.  Matches for our U8, U10, U12, and U14 divisions, are all played "in-house" between CCYSL teams. Games are generally played on Saturdays at the CCYSL fields at Pendery Soccer Complex on Williams Lane (off Route 8 in Melbourne, KY) or at Tower Park in Fort Thomas. Game Fields Make-up games are generally played on weeknights at these same fields.

Standings.  We do not keep standings or scores for any age group in our recreational programs.

Practices.  Practices are held either once or twice a week at local fields that CCYSL has obtained permission to use from the municipality or school district.  The head coach of each team chooses on which field, day, and time the team will practice.  Most practices are 60 to 90 minutes.

Note: It is very important that we follow the rules for using our practice and game fields so that we can continue to use this fields in the future. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

U6 Rec Program

Overview
The U6 Program is designed to provide a positive, early introduction to the sport of soccer for kids and parents alike. It allows kids to learn fundamental technique through age appropriate practice activities. It also provides a first exposure to playing a "real" game, with teammates, a "uniform," goals, and a worthy opponent. For parent-coaches, the U6 Program provides an opportunity for an early exposure to coaching and the value of Coach Education.

Team Formation  The Registrar randomly forms teams for the U6 Program from the applications received by the application deadline. The Registrar will try to place kids with late applications on a team... but no guarantees. A maximum of eight (8) players are rostered onto each U6 team. Each team is provided with unique colored Campbell County Youth Soccer League T-shirts for each player and the head coach.

Play Dates  The U6 Program plays on six consecutive Sundays (weather permitting) each in the fall and spring at the Pendery Park in Melbourne. Each Sunday includes 30 minutes of team "practice" and a 30 minute "game" against another CCYSL U6 team.

Practice Activities In the practice session, the coach provides fun, age-appropriate activities to help develop basic soccer skills. Example activities for U6 players are provided on the Coach Resources page. In addition, CCYSL encourages all of its U6 coaches and parents to take the free 5-hour Youth Module course offered locally prior to each U6 season by KYSA.

"The Game"  The second half of each Sunday teams play a 30-minute "game" against another team. Games are typically 4v4 and played to small goals with no goalie. There are no referees for the U6 games, but the coaches are allowed to be on the field with the players to provide encouragement and support.

End of Season Party and Trophies  Immediately following the last Sunday of each season CCYSL provides a treat and an individual trophy for each player so that the coaches, kids and parents can celebrate a successful season.

Select Program

CCYSL does not run its own select program, but works cooperatively with all of the select Clubs in our area. We do not recommend or endorse any specific Club.
