Futsal Street Soccer (DOB 9/1/2014 - 8/31/2018)

This is our introduction to soccer program run by Futsal and Street Soccer designed for Pre-K kids.  The program is a platform for high speed, high volume ball touches and maneuvering in tight spaces.   Players are not broken into teams, and no games are played in this program.  It's ideal with Covid as kids work with their own ball in their own space.

Due to COVID, there will be specific modifications that will be announced before the program starts in regards to play, required masks and limited spectators.  

Players are required to have their own soccer ball (size 3) & wear athletic clothing & cleats (must be rubber) or sneakers. Shin guards are optional.  If you do not have a ball, let us know and we will provide a limited supply for the coaches to have.

K-2 Spring Soccer

New this spring, we are going to offer games for spring soccer for kids in Kindergarten and Grades 1 and 2.  We were very happy with how the fall season went with Covid, and we want to keep the kids active and having some fun!

The total registrations will dictate how we break the teams down.  Ideally, we would have a Kindergarten coed division, and then combined divisions in Grades 1 and 2 broken down by gender.  Players must have turned five (5) on August 31, 2020.  

Play will be on Sunday mornings/early afternoons starting April 11 and running to June 13. We will take off May 9 for Mother’s Day.  The teams will practice for the first two sessions (April 11 and April 18), and then jump into games on April 25.  We are looking at playing somewhere from 10:30am to 2pm on those Sundays.   If there is interest in extending the season, we may investigate that.  

If a coach wants to schedule a weekday practice and if there is field time available, we will do our best to accommodate those practices.  Our traditional spring sports of baseball, softball and lacrosse will have the first priority.   Please note, we cannot guarantee your baseball, softball and/or lacrosse practice will not conflict with a weekday practice.  We are not going to schedule and baseball, softball or lacrosse during that Sunday time period so kids can play multiple sports.

1/2nd grade requirements:

  • Shin Guards
  • Black soccer shorts (players who played in Fall 2020 will have these, those that need new ones or did not play in Fall 2020 have the option to purchase them for an additional $10. This needs to be noted during the registration process or by emailing Danielle at [email protected] before the start of the season).
  • Rec Dept will provide a game shirt, and matching socks.

*Due to COVID-19, there will be some modification to play as well as limits on the number of spectators.  This information will be communicated once the league starts and will be based on the regulations from the State at this time.*

Grade 3-8 Roots Spring Soccer

We are happy to enter our spring third through eighth grade teams in the Roots Soccer League.  The season will start practicing when the weather is nicer and fields open in late March/early April.  The season runs into late June.   Teams are split by grade & gender with each grade having their own team (we may have more than one team in a grade if we get enough kids to play).   

Due to COVID, there will be specific modifications that will be announced before the program starts in regards to play, required masks and limited spectators.  

As we know people are eager to get outside and play some sports this spring, we are allowing them to play any number of our sports this year; however, your attendance at practices will impact playing time.  Please make every effort to communicate your schedule with the coaching staff.  It is unlikely that we will be able to accommodate schedule requests for individual players.  Please note as the kids get older, the number of games and practices increases making playing multiple sports more difficult.  


For the spring season we do not offer a less competitive league; however, in the fall we also offer the Quabbin Valley Soccer League.  Players that didn't play in the fall can be added as roster spaces allow.  

Practices can start in late March/early April (weather dependent) and will be determined by the coach. Some teams will have a regular practice schedule, some may practice sporadically and others may not practice at all.  As spring soccer is the out of season sport, the typical spring sports like baseball, softball and lacrosse will take the priority in scheduling fields.   We will use a combination of the Town Farm, Middle School, Mosier School and turf field at SHHS for the teams.  

Tryouts/Evaluations occur only in the Fall season. Players will play on the teams they played on in the Fall and any new players will be added as space allows.  

For the Roots Soccer League parents will need to upload a picture of their player and provide information on the Roots Soccer website. This allows players to be approved and rostered correctly, and also provides updates on their players game schedule. You will receive an email with information on how to go through the process when needed. Players will not be allowed to play unless this information is provided. If your player played in the Fall 2020 season, you will not need to do this. 

Games start in early May and run through the end of June. They are played Saturdays.   For the U13 & U14 age group, they also may play on Friday nights. Half the games will be played in South Hadley and the other half will be played in other towns.  Game schedules can be found at: http://www.rootssoccerleague.com/

For the 3rd-8th grade Roots soccer program the equipment below is what is required for each player.
  • Rubber cleats
  • Shin Guards
  • Uniform from Fall 2020
  • If your child did not play in Fall 2020 a uniform including a shirt, shorts & socks is already added in your registration fee ($120) and will be purchased for your child. 
  • If your child played in Fall 2020 but needs a new uniform (lost or no longer fits) please make note of this during the registration process or by emailing Danielle at [email protected] as soon as possible. There will be an additional $30 fee for the uniform on top of the regular registration fee ($70).
